MMA and the REAL411 Portal to fight disinformation during elections
Social media – with its bots, likes and shares – has become the new battlefield of what is real and not real in the news and information we consume on a daily basis. What appears to be truth can sometimes be propaganda being peddled to derail elections or sway public opinion with the intent to cause harm. This is called digital disinformation.
Having undertook extensive research in respect of disinformation and possible strategies and approaches for the 2019 elections, MMA is again at it for this year’s 2021 local government elections.
Together with the Independent Electoral Commission, we set up a portal called REAL411 to report disinformation online and on social media with positive results and are encouraging the public to continue reporting on REAL411.
Remember: Digital disinformation is false, inaccurate, or misleading information designed, presented, and promoted to intentionally cause public harm.
Please go to the “REAL 411” for more information: www.real411.org.
The platform is also currently being used to fight disinformation on social media during the Coronavirus.
