Parties not compliant with Promotion of Access to Information Act
The Information Regulator last year conducted an own-initiative assessment of PAIA compliance on selected political parties to promote party transparency as an essential part of the system of democratic governance.
Advocate Pansy Tlakula, chairperson of the Information Regulator, announced the key findings from these assessments in a statement released on 26 March 2024:
“We assessed thirteen political parties represented in Parliament and one party not represented in Parliament, but with a presence in municipal councils nationally. We found that about 54% of political parties represented in Parliament are generally non-compliant with PAIA. About 46% of political parties represented in Parliament have some level of compliance but need to improve in certain areas. Therefore, none of the political parties represented in parliament are compliant with PAIA.”
